Fly fishing hopper patterns on the White River and Norfork River is most productive in the summer months. Our hopper season usually begins in mid June and can last well into October, with July, August and September being the prime months. There is a good number of terrestrials on the banks of both the White and Norfork rivers. Numerous hopper patterns work well here. Tailwater fisheries require smaller flies, but that's definitely not the case during our hopper season. The hopper patterns I use range in sizes 10 to 4 and are very productive. There is nothing like watching a 24" brown trout swim up to take a size 6 foam hopper.

9-15-09: When condition are right, landing rainbows like this is not that uncommon with hopper patterns on the White River.
10-25-09: This nice brown took a hopper pattern below Bull Shoals Dam on the White River. Unfortunately, you can only see the head of the size 6 hopper in the roof of it's mouth.
10-6-09: Randy, a long time client and all-round nice guy from Memphis TN, shows what hopper patterns can produce this time of year below Bull Shoals Dam, on the White River!
9-18-09: Hopper fishing at it's best! Wish I could say that I landed this one but was Mark Lavelles handy work!!
